New Summer Shedule!!
New Classes and Schedule Updates at Underdog Martial Arts
We’ve got a lot happening right now.
Some of these changes are already live. Some are rolling out soon. All of them are designed around one thing. Helping you get better, faster, and more consistently.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s new and what it means for your training.
BJJ Skills and Drills
BJJ Skills and Drills is built to help you improve faster by focusing on how skills are actually developed, not just memorized. We’re leaning into the ecological approach, also known as constraint-led training or task-based games. If you’ve been around Jiu Jitsu for a bit, you’ve probably heard these terms.
What that means in practice is simple.
Instead of just drilling moves or doing broad positional sparring, we’re isolating the micro battles within a position, transition, or submission. These are the moments where control is gained, lost, and regained.
This allows you to:
Build real timing instead of just recognizing steps
Develop instincts through repetition in live situations
Gain confidence applying techniques under pressure
This class is designed to tighten up your game and make the transition to more advanced training feel natural instead of overwhelming.
Takedowns for BJJ
You asked for it and we listened.
Takedowns for BJJ is a dedicated class focused on one of the most avoided parts of training: Starting on the feet.
This class runs just like our BJJ classes, but with an emphasis on:
Learning effective takedowns for grappling
Drilling better setups and dynamic movement
Connecting attacks together instead of relying on one attempt
Understanding balance, timing, and entries
But the biggest goal is this.
Getting comfortable being taken down.
For a lot of people, that hesitation is the biggest barrier. Once that fear goes away, everything opens up. You start moving more freely, taking more chances, and actually enjoying the process.
And when you’re having more fun, you learn faster and retain more.
Self Defense 102 and the New 4 Week Course
We’re expanding our self defense program in a more structured way.
Self Defense 102 is being added to the regular schedule and will be run the same way Coach Colleen currently teaches. Practical, direct, and focused on real-world application.
This also allows us to introduce something new.
Self Defense 101.
This will be a 4 week introductory course designed for people who want a clear starting point without committing long term right away. It will cover:
Striking fundamentals
Wrestling concepts
Jiu Jitsu basics
Verbal advocacy and boundary setting
This course will be offered as a paid package for non-members and included for current members.
We’re planning to launch the first one on May 30th.
Other Schedule Changes
We’ve also made some broader updates to give people more consistency and more chances to train.
Kickboxing Fundamentals now runs 4 times per week
BJJ Fundamentals now runs 4 times per week
Friday Night Heavy Bag HIIT has been added
Kickboxing Intermediate has moved to 7pm on Monday and Wednesday
Lunch Time Nogi BJJ on Tuesdays and Thursdays
6am classes all week long
These changes are about making it easier to stay consistent.
More options. Better structure. Less guesswork.
What This Means for You
The goal behind all of this is simple.
Clearer paths to improvement.
Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been training for a while, you should know:
Where to go
What to work on
How to keep progressing
That’s what these updates are built to support.
If you’ve been meaning to train more consistently or try something new, now’s a good time to jump in.
